Heat/Air Duct problem???

As the subject line indicates, I'm not sure what kind of problem I have.

When I start up my 95 E320 wagon, there is a sort of muffled pop under the dash behind (I think) the center vents.

The image I have is of a baffle that is opening...sticking, then opening with a pop.

Thinking it was probably a baffle in the air duct work, I've tried to duplicate it by switching to the various climate control modes, but it only happens on start-up.

I've searched the forum and gone through my CD looking for something...but haven't found anything yet that sounds like the culprit.

Anybody have an idea?

Thanks,

AH

Sounds like the main flap slamming open/shut as soon as it receives vacuum from the now started engine. The 560 does that if I have the ACC set to off, it slams with a solid thud on start-up.

my 92 400e does similar.... a muffled "thud - thud -thud" when the heater temps are used. I've also noticed that I do not have airflow from my passenger floor vent...

Could that be the vacuum attempting to open a stuck passenger floor vent flap? If so, is it accessable for easy repair?
