'84 300TD paid $3700.00 about two weeks ago. Needs work, odds and ends, just did filters and hand prime pump. Found exhast leak smell from the air cleaner bolt being broken resulting in down tube separation from bottom of air cleaner. Now I need to find the oil leaks all over the engine. I love it and it drives nice. Plan on burning B100. 297,700K. Oh well, I like working on it.....

82 300D Turbodiesel & 95 E320 Wagon
Hi All,
I bought my '82 300D Turbodiesel in '03 with 250k miles on it for $2k. I invested about $1k, mainly on suspension rubber bushings, motor mounts, oil lines, new brake lining, drive shaft flex disc, an extra $500 on a half shaft that went out on the way to Las Vegas. Else, HE is the best of the best, just keeps purring.....@ 288k miles I just bought a '95 E320 Wagon with 98k miles on it for $8200, plus taxes, fees, registration. The Acura dealer who had it taken in as a trade had listed $12,500 KBB asking $9,950. They made me work for a few hours. Eventually they agreed including fixing the driver seat which didn't move back properly. The car is a real nice 1 owner vehicle, extremely clean in and out (found after 2 years of looking). I should mention, out here in Cali everything is priced more than anywhere else, over the top, so to speak. But then again, considering an out of state internet deal, unseen, plus flying there and/or transport cross country.... Unfortunately, the dealer failed to provide maintenance history/records. I have seen the carfax though, showing it being turned in regularly. If anyone could help with a hint on how to obtain maintenance history through VIN# research..... I appreciate any input! Thanks,

1984 300sd
I recently purchased a 1984 300sd for $3200. It had 149K miles. The car look pretty good. The paint is not fading, but there are some light scratches on the trunk lid. I didn't noticed the transmission flaring on the test drive. If I would have noticed it, I would have not bought the car. I wouldn't have know this was a common occurence. Thanks to the great people on this forum, I have made some adjustments to fix it, but I still have some work to do until it's perfect.
I am working (actually toying) on the car every weekend I have available fixing little things. It's great to be able to work on a car again. It's not like the 21st century cars I have to take to the shop for a good reaming .It was probably a fair deal for a California car. It's tough to find one with everything working and looking good for this price.

Ended up replacing 2 hood ornaments & two trannies) Ditched that one fast! 1991 300 E paid $15,000 in 2002 (good looking car and still runs like a top) Still have that one in case anyones' interested! 2001 E320 paid $19,900 3 weeks ago...Man! I bought an 87 300E last year for $2000, with 60,000 original miles. I spent about a week underneath it bringing all the rubber up to speed, and it now feels as solid as day one. I am pleased.... What a great car!

Finally - An All Benz Garage!
I recently completed my steady transition to all Mercedes Benz...beginning with...
(My Car) 2003 - 1988 560SEL, 103K miles, bought for $6500. I think if I was a bit more patient, I may have found a 560 like this for maybe $1K less, otherwise I think I paid a fair amount and am satisfied. Have spent another $2K over the last three years fixing/updating. She is 99% now and runs/looks great. Only remaining issue is the OE BeckkerRadio shorts out occassionally - mostly during winter (cold) ![]() (Everyone's Car) 2003 - 1993 190E 2.6, 88K miles, bought for $4,000. I think this was a good deal. This 190 was/is in excellant condition. And although I bought it to have my newly licesnced daughter gain some driving experience, it still looks and drives well! I've spent about $1K on updating/repairing over the last three years. Its complete now and looks fantastic, ready for newly licensed daughter #2!. (Wife's Car) 2006 - 1997 E420, 24K miles, bought for $17K. I think I paid what this car is worth. However, purchasing an E420 with 24,000 miles where it sold for over $50K when new, I couldn't be happier. This is one fine automobile - incredibly refined and very much mint condition, as its miles would suggest. I just spent $700.00 on the 30K service at my Mercedes Indy mechanic (no stealership for me). Obviously its clear that I love these cars. When I purchased the E420 last spring, I sold my P.O.S. 2001 Volvo XC70. I bought the Volvo new. It is BY FAR the most expensive auto I have owned. Purchased for $42K. $6K in repairs - the last being a new transmission after 96K miles. Sold for $14,500. You do the math. Never again. Buy pre-owned, buy Benz!

just picked up a 1988 260e for $1326. 206k miles.
Tires 50%, aftermarket stereo... decent paint brakes, rotors, water pump, valve guides, all water hoses in the past two years. drivers seatback slightly worn. (tex) cold air, shifts well. I guess this car will last as long as the tranny holds up. it's in good enough shape that i would probably drop in a used/rebuilt tranny somewhere down the road.

1984 300sd
I just bought my 300SD with 153,726, 2 owner, all records, near pristine in and out, for $3500 - and happy to do it! They are getting hard to fing in this shape. It was always garaged. Now I have to do incidentals, but it's a beauty.

In October, I bought an 85 380SL with ~96K mi, in fundamentally good shape but with bad paint and a horrible noise from the engine for $4200, without the hard top. This may seem like "too much", but the car seemed to have been maintained very well (until the noise, which apparently caused the owner to dump it). The pluses that made me buy it w/o much negotiation were a set of Dayton wire wheels (which I had originally intended to sell) and a very new top that was put on by a real pro. The engine noise turned out to be a cam and cam followers, caused by bad oil tube fittings (popped off).
If you can fix a lot of things on these cars yourself and shop well, they can be very inexpensive to own and maintain.

1985 500 SEL 150,000 miles for $1,500
Someone from this sight, sent this reply to one of my threads, "the most expensive car, is a cheap Mercedes." He was right. so far spent $1000 for parts and far from finished. |
