Hi James, welcome to the forums.

First I am wondering where you are located. In the US, you should have the maintenance paid for by MB, or are you just wanting to change more often?
You certainly wouldn't NEED to buy a topsider, there is a drain plug for the oil pan, but you need to remove a few screws to remove the center of the belly pan, not that hard, then a 13mm wrench to remove the drain plug.
The oil filter is under an access panel also. If you are standing in front of the car looking at the engine, the panel is on the right side (or drivers side you might say) towards the front, you just pull up on the front of it, it's near the dipstick I believe, but slightly towards the front of the car. The capacity after the draining and replacing the filter is 5.8 quarts, and you need to use Mobil1 synthetic oil.
