Hi, during changing gears, when i release the clutch quickly, i get a "clunk" like something was loose, from the transmission tunnel/rear end of the car. what are the likely places for play developing?

also, a whine develops only at certain speeds, thus does that point to a worn differential? what can be done to help suppress the whine if it's a worn differential? thanks.
