Help!Traney problem 1987 SEC 560

My wifes car. This car snaps to the rear when you put it in reverse. It results in a big jerk that is very unpleasent most all the time. If it sits over nite the first time you crank it and go into reverse it does not snap at all or as bad, but drive it and the jerking in reverse is a sure thing. What is going here? Is there a easy fix to this problem for an otherwise very nice car. Thanks.
