W124 Mono Valve replacment

Can anyone tell me if I can use a mono valve from another (as in older and cheaper) 300D? I'm wondering if the heating problem i'm having will be cured with a new valve. But I can not put a rebuild kit in mine. ( because there isn't one made for this year.) Are the hose sizes different or the impedence of these solnoids. With an engine temp of 90 there should be lots of heat in the cabin. The fan is running fine in auto and man. Max temp set and still the windows are fogging up! Thank goodness for seat warmers!!!!!!

No, they are a different animal. Also the heater valve on a 124 car is called a heater valve, it is not a mono valve.

That said, it sounds like you're taking a stab at picking a part to replace without doing any troubleshooting.

The heater valve is normally open. That means if you disconnect the connector at the valve, you should get max heat. I would try that before proceeding. These valves are pretty robust.

There are two much more likely causes of your problem. One would be the temp sensor and associated components such as the fan that draws sample air through the grill near the rear view mirror. With the ignition switch on see if it will draw smoke into the little grill. If not check the small sample fan. It is in different positions on different 124 models. My '88 has it in front of and to the right of the glove box.

Secondly, the Climate control unit that sends the signal to the heater valve could be out. This is probably not likely in your case, because if it sends no signal to the heater valve then you should have max heat, assuming the heater valve is functioning normally.

Good luck,
