126 Vibration
I just read on another post about the cv joints causing a vibration in the 126 cars and that sometimes you can just swap the axles and the problem will go away. My car is an 84 and the cv jounts don't bolt to the stub axles in the differential but just goes into the diff. I know the cover has to come off the diff and the axle retainers removed, and the bolt at the end of the axle at the wheel has to be removed. Now my question, will the axles come out without removeing anything else?
Thanks

No, the axle is too long to get out. I think we remove the bolts holding the differential to the subframe and leave it hooked to the driveshaft. Push the unit one way and remove one axle and then the other way for the other. It is something like that. I personally haven't done one since about 1984.
I only do diagnostics and alignments.

drain the diff. remove the bolts to the mount on the rear end cover. remove the cover. then jack the diff up as high as you can. there is a large snap ring on the inner joint. push the inner joint in to pull the clip. the portion in the axle flange is very short. push the outer joint inward, then pull that end out. a little wiggling and the inner end will come out. some of the old-timers used to swap axles side to side to prevent excessive wear on the inner joint's splines. never heard of the vibration problem, but that may be why. be careful when you rethread the mount bolts, the cover's aluminum and will strip in nothing flat a good sealer in a tube for the cover and that's it. good luck, chuck.

Thanks Steve and Chuck,
I'll let you know how it goes and if it helps any. I have seen some vibrations from bad CV joints in front wheel drive cars and am hoping it will get rid of a minor vibration I have when excelerating thru about 25 mph. Thanks again
