Ozonolysis technique
A friend of mine bought a CLK 55AMG with 5,000 miles on it and drove it on a fairly warm day last week and was dissappointed to smell cigarette smoke in the car. Apparently the PO smoked for the 5,000 miles he owned the car. The dealer is going to perform an ozone purge to the inside of the car and says it will remove all the cig smell. Anybody have luck with this or even heard about it?

Ozone purge or Wallet purge? Ozone is great for odor removal such as cigarette smoke, as an oxidant it also works well against bacterial scent generators, but does not do especially well against most household contaminants or allergens (UV light works for those.) The efficiency of the odor removal will depend on the equipment used, the filtration used in combination with the ozone and the tenacity of the odors.

Thanks for the reply. Ozone is very nasty stuff. Highly toxic and unstable. I wonder how they do it because I also wonder what happens to vinyl, leather, and wiring insulation when exposed to high concentrations of ozone.

Believe it or not,
Trick I learned from a local frozen custard owner. Coffee beans. Choose your favorite bean (mine is French Vanilla) Place the whole beans in a cotton sack and place under the seat. Like charcoal the coffee absorbs odor and at the same time covers the stink of the cigar. Worked twice for me. Takes a while but the car smell great.

The odor will dissipate naturally within 30 to 60 days.
