Climate Control EC Button, 96 C280
Thanks to everyone for all the great posts. Hope someone can help with this. I just replaced AC compressor, drier, temp switch adn pressure switch. System is charged up and very cold BUT... now whenever I turn on the ignition the EC light is on and the compressor is disengaged. EC button does not go out with normal momentary pushing. I get it to turn off by holding it down for about 10 seconds, light goes out and compressor engages normally. The button now behaves normally, turning off/on as usual. Doesn't matter if EC light on or off when ignition turned off.
It is always on when the ignition is turned on and stays on until I hold the button. Thanks for any help, Dan |

After reading responses to Benzmark23's similar post thought I'd add some info about mine: Had my usual benz shop pull the codes. He said there aren't any. System works very well once I turn off the EC light. You'd never know anything was amiss. Could I have a problem with the temp or pressure switch at the drier? I noticed the plastic connector on the temp switch is cracked, doesn't look like any wires are broken though. Are these the "input sensors" M.B.DOC refered to? Thanks, Dan

Is yours the large display? I think they started in 96. All of them have actual values. I would get the list and verify your readings. A sensor out of range will trigger that type of activity. I would look closely at the #5 evap temp and probably the refrig pressure which I don't remember the position of.
If you need instructions you might read this: http://www.continentalimports.com/ser_ic40142.html The tables in the article apply to a 210 car but are similar for yours. The archives have a lot of discussion of AC codes and tables should be there.

Thanks for the info. I'll look at those things and see what I can.

Might also want to check out this thread that I recently started. Mine still isn't solved. I've ordered the evaporator temp sensor and am going to put it in, maybe solve one problem and see what happens next.
