SRS Light and "Airbag Off" Light on 99 E55

Hello,

On my 1999 E55, the SRS light on the dash and the "Airbag Off" light on the center console are illuminated. From my searches, it seems that these are related to the babysmart ACSR system. Is this something that can be fixed yourself and what is the likely problem. Also, does anyone know of how to scan for SRS and ABS codes?

Thanks,
Chris

I had the same problem with my 2000 ML430. One dealer tried to tell me our cell phone caused the problem. The next dealer fixed the problem by replacing the babysmart sensor in the passenger seat. I don't think its a DIY job. The seat cover has to be removed to get to the sensor. Cost was covered under my factory warranty and was around $426.00 with labor. The sensor alone was $138.00.

Sounds like the right seat pad to me, the ACSR antenna.
First you want to check the front of the seat down near the floor and make sure a connector didn't inadvertantly get disconnected.
To read the codes in SRS requires a scanner. Why are you worried about ABS codes?

Thanks for the replys. Is the sensor difficult to replace? I am a pretty handy mechanic and was wondering if you could give a quick description as to how to replace it. Regarding ABS codes, I was just wondering because I had problems in the past. If there was a generic scanner available, I would be interested in purchasing one if you could suggest where. Thanks.

Remove seat, remove backrest from seat, remove seat cover, replace sensor. I believe on your car it's possible the ACSR pad is integrated into the seat cover, may be real expensive to buy the part in that case, the dealer should be able to tell you if this is true on the 99 or not. No idea on the scanner.

Once again, thanks for your help. Would it be located in the seat portion or in the backrest portion?

BabySmart is in the seat bottom.

Some are in the cover, others are not. Call your dealer to get an accurate parts price, make sure you have your VIN handy...
