Adding heated seats

I am interested in adding heated seats to my '93 300E. I've seen information on this before and thought I'd bookmarked the threads, but apparently didn't. I did some searching but came up empty. Has anyone done this to their car? Any tips for what route I should take?

I seem to recall someone saying Phil Smart in Seattle did this modification. Also, I've seen places that sell kits for adding heated seats (and will probably be installing a kit in my Miata).

Thanks in advance for your help.

-Mike

That looks great; thanks. I'll have to look into it further. Do you know whether it's possible to do the installation using OEM M-B switches? I know that's probably overkill, but I'm really anal-retentive. :-)

Yes it is possible. You may want to find the console wood out of a E-class that had the seat heaters (at a breaker); or you could try cutting your own holes. Talk to Carl or Steve at Bergwerks, they can give you all the ins and outs.

to do the modification correctly, you will require 4 heating elements, 1 harness, 1 control module, 2 switches and a wood panel. The factory elements are stitched with the leather covers. You can add aftermarket carbon elements under the leather and they work pretty good.

Sunman,
Would you by chance have part numbers and work instructions? I found a lead to a '95 E320 with the goods in the salvage yard. I just need to make sure I grab everything in one shot.

Thanks

Mark,
Great Link! I will absolute consider this as a second option. I think seats alone were gonna run me about 250 a pair. I would still like to go the stock route.
Thanks again!

I don't know the part numbers off the top of my head but get the control module under the rear seat, both switches, wood and wiring. IF you cannot get the seats, buy the elements like Mark stated and use those mated to the factory electrical system. That is what I did for the rears.
