when to rerplace the 124 with a 210
i currently own a 1992 MB 300E/E320 in-line 6.
just asking for opinions out there. when is the best time in the future to shift to a w210 series? or up to how many more years do we get hold of our present 124s? or smoe may recommend to keep the car and get a second benz. thanks |

Whenever you want. The W124 will run as long as you want it to. Actually, any car will, depending on how much money you want to put into it, and if it's worth it to you.

Everyone drives a particular car for a particular reason. For some they like how it drives and don't care how much it costs to keep going. For others it has to be the fastest thing on the road. For others, maybe they're hung up on fuel economy. For some (this is probably where I fit) they want a car that is reliable, but simple and accessible to work on when the need arises because they do their own work.
I pointed that out because I'm sure you will get many different responses here. You must keep in mind what YOU want in a car, not others. All that said, I owned a 210 car and drove it over 70,000 miles. I now have a 124 and a 203 car and drive them at different times. My driving impressions of the 124 car and 210 are quite similar, although the 210 gets a slight edge, just because it FEELS like a slightly flatter handling car. It also is slightly roomier inside if you haul others with you very much. For me the 203 is a much more fun car to drive than either of the other two. It feels lighter and more nimble, but has a much smoother and quieter ride. The 210 and 124 are equally difficult to work on, with the 210 car more reliant on computer control. There are five computers in the car with a CAN network. That part of the car seems reliable enough, but it does open up more possibility for electrical gremlins. For me if I were driving a nice 124 in good shape, I would go to lengths to keep it properly maintained and repaired as long as I could because there is little to gain IMHO by changing to a 210 just for the sake of change. I think that the 124 and 210 are pretty equal in many respects. Hope this helps, |

there are other reasons to consider:
* the 210 has side airbags * the 210 has a 5-speed transmission * the W124 has the classic Bruno Sacco styling and solid-slamming doors, among other traditional Benz characteristics i personally prefer the W124's styling, but value the side airbags ... |
