New conv top, any maintenance tips?

I am getting a new top for my 1996 SL500 and was just wondering if there was any maintenance things I should look at while it is being done? Should I worry about waterproofing the top at all? I have obtained the top from GAHH and it is a German sonneland top.

Also has anyone ever had trouble with the rear hatch not closing? When I close the top the top part engages the front windshield pillar fine, but then stalls right before the rear hatch closes, I can get it to work if I slightly toggle the top up and down, but usually not in one continuous motion. I do hear the top locks click into place.

Thanks much.

I can only think of two things.

1. Check the hydraulic fluid to make sure it's properly topped off.

2. My guess is the electrical brain may have things out of sequence and need to be reset. I once had my top do some wierd stuff similar to what you're experiencing. It then mysteriously went away. Try buttoning your top up in the full complete up and locked position. Disconnect the battery, then reconnect. See if the problem goes away.

As far as maintenance, just keep the top clean. Dirt particles act as microabrasives when the material moves.
