98e320
Wife was out car shopping today. Found a 98 E320 on a dealers lot. Place was closed so have little infomation on it yet. I know little of cars newer than my 91 300SE. Anything I should be aware of with this year/model? She also saw some 99/00 C230 Sports that she liked. Again any info would be appreciated. Think she is leaning more toward the 320.

1998 is the first year of the V6 in the E320, and they had trouble with harmonic balancers. Inspect it. If it hasn't been replaced, do it now.
There is a loooooooong thread on harmonic balancers. Here it is: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=63512

Ah the early m112 210 car. 210.065
Ok, heres the list. Oil control ring sludging/coking. If its not got full records run. Oil leaks from the lower pan and oil level sensor problems, mostly sorted out by now. Bushing style center support in the trans, if it fails cheaper to install a reman with the updated bearing style. (also refered to as the input shaft bearing) Early style freewheel units, also prone to early failures but, cheaper to repair. Dash cracking problems. Of course the balancer thing but that minor, at $80.00 for the part, keep one in the glovebox. Seat frame rocking and such due to poorly designed piviots for tilting of the bottem. Really not a bad car overall as long as its had the oil changed. You'll get the occassional CEL for 02's and sometimes the cat beds bust up and rattle. Joe
