W201 owners: Haynes UK 3450 book?
Question for you W201 owners out there:
How transferable and helpful is the Haynes UK 190E book for US models? Aside from the misplaced steering wheel, misspelling of 'color' and the mispronunciation of 'schedule', is this book good for an American owner? I've got a '93 2.3, and my '84-'88 Haynes 63015 book is all greased up and falling apart. It being a UK release I can't see it at Barnes and Noble to decide for myself. Here's one of many links for it: http://www.classicgarage.com/mebe191919ha.html Thanks for your opinions. mike '93 190e 2.3 |

Don't know, but the US version is widely available in the SoCal area, for about $14.

The '84-'88 book is widely available, yes.
I'm wondering if the '83-'93 UK book beats a '84-'88 US book, from a '93 US owner's perspective. |

buy the UK version- it'll teach y'all how to spell properly
On a more serious note, I think if you have the '93 then the one that cover that year will probably be more useful, as there maybe be updates, etc that aren't covered in the earlier version. The UK ones are also hardback, if you like a sturdier book. you can get them directly form Haynes' website, that's where I got my W124 book. Apart from some things in the engine compartment being reversed and the wheel on the correct side, everything's pretty much the same.

Had a really good laugh at the language used. 1. Prisle, means to pry! 2. Gaiters, means rubberboots over CV joints. 3. Boots & bonnets, we know all about them. It does have decent pictures, which comes in handy, when you don't understand the language.

The "new" Haynes for the W201 also covers the 2.6L M103 motor, so that's an improvement. Whether your in Lancaster in the UK, Lancaster, PA, Lancaster, CA, etc. the book is a good reference for W201 owners, but don't you wish they would tackle the tough stuff, like the sunroof, instead of admonishing "Consult a service professional."

haynes 3450
I went to 2 libraries and tried several books. Also the mitchell database for technicians. This haynes UK version has data the others do not. Specifically , the parameters for ECT sensor(coolant sensor). and ignition data for tsz vs. ezl systems. Also 2.3 MT clutch info as well as driveshaft pics to help where language and familiarity was a problem. The US version leaves info out and is frustrating but it has its own merits as well. Especially how wiring of systems relate or share space. A newbie needs both. They are free to read. I just had to borrow a copy from back east and wait for inter library loan. After seven books, i would buy these two haynes first. The car sat for years with every owner its had because the data is hard to find and bad copies were made. Illegible star tek sheets and expensive cd roms kept this car off the road. Unnecessary vacuum lines were leaking. The UK book had pics!!!
