W201 2.65 rear end from W124 ?

Is it possible to install a W124 2.65 rear end into a W201 if I swap the rear cover?

Its my understanding that the '87 190D 2.5 Turbo has a 2.65 diff, same as my '87 300DT parts car. Since the 190D rear end howls, I'm considering converting the '87 300DT diff to the 190D. I know the back cover looks different, but can it be made to work?

Only ~1350 '87 190D 2.5 Turbos were made worldwide in 1987 so its not a very common differential.

Thanks,
