'91 300TE 4-matic front axles

I have one inner and one outer front CV boot going, and some grease has spun out of outer one, the right side one. No symptoms of bad joints yet--smooth, no clicking. Have to tow a boat to Florida, 1200 miles each way, next month. Would I be crazy to get split boots put on? Would I be best advised to have the half-axles rebuilt, with new balls and races as well as boots? 136 K miles on the car. Cost is very much a concern. New half-axles are $900 +, each, and out of the question. What would you do? Thanks very much---Mason

keep em full of grease until your ready to pull them out which is fairly easy to do.overhaul is covered in the mercedes manual.if the joints are still good just replace the boots
