E300TD a/c clutch please help how to replace
My 98 E300TD has a noizy a/c clutch the bearing sound like they have no lube.
I would appreciate some tips on how to replace the clutch on this specific car. I have done others that were easier to access. It looks to me like if I remove the radiator that the clutch would be exposed enough to get a puller on it. Is this the easiest way? Is the clucth or the bearing available by it self or do I need the whole compressor? I didn't want to open system unless I had to. Also if anyone knows the best place to purchase one other than the local MB dealers. I kown there is a lot of know how on this forum and for that I am forever thankful. Acerejo |

Went through this with my '98 ML 320... and I believe it uses the same compressor. The compressor was fine but the clutch pulley bearing was failing. The clutch alone, from M-B, was approx. $800, whereas a new compressor, complete with clutch, was approx. $1100. Got the part number off the pulley bearing but was told by a local bearing supply house that it was not available stateside. Do a search on this if you want the bearing number; I posted here about 2 months ago when looking for the bearing.
Ended up going with a new compressor. |
