Steering woes?

Hello all. I just purchased a 2002 C320 Sedan with 17000 miles on the clock. On the drive home, the steering wheel performed a strange lateral movement, moving slowly back and forth about an inch while going around long turns. This is NOT a tire balance problem. To me, it felt more like the PS pump (or the rack and pinion) was acting weird. I checked the PS fluid level and it's at the minimum cold mark when hot.

I figured it wouldn't hurt to add some power steering fluid, but I live over two hours from a MB dealer. What PS fluid works in the C320 besides the MB fluid?

Thanks in advance for your help!

By the way, I tried the search but didn't see anything that applied to my little problem . . .

No one knows? My manual says use MB power steering fluid. I can't get that at my local parts store this evening. I wanted to get something before they close tonight.

One way to get the right fluid is to call MB roadside and explain your problem how your afraid to drive the car with the fluid low.
They will help.

Thanks. I'll do that.

They said use Dextron III.

Thanks again!
