Towing Question?

Well, I finally got me a 300SD. I'd like to use it for towing. Mainly my porsche to the track, or the repair shop, the latter more likely.

Think it's possible with a dolly, or even a trailer, or will I kill the rear-end, transmission or something else?

Thanks,
Christoph

We used a euro model 280TE for years pulling a big car trailer and cars as big as 500SELs. The only real problem was braking, we didn't have trailer brakes and wouldn't recommend pulling without them.

We also pulled a heavy 19ft Wellcraft inboard/outboard with the same car. At the time my wife was driving a 126 280SEL (same motor as the wagon), we tried pulling the boat one time with the SEL and it ran too hot (it was a Florida summer day).

My partner talks about pulling a trailer through the Alps when he was young with a 190d. He was pulling some little Italien car.

I would be most worried about overheating, most everything else will take it, but get trailer brakes.

I found a trailer hitch that's rated at 2000 pounds. Where could I get a heavier one?

Anythig I could do to help out the cooling?
