Should I buy this E 320?

I have been offered what I think is a very good deal on a 1998 E 320 Wagon (71,000 miles). (My son is in the business and took this car in on a trade). He talked to the previous owner who reported that there was a leak on a rear shock, but was told by MB dealer's mechanic that this was not a "major" problem as long as the hydrolic (sp) fluid resevoir was monitered regularly. I noticed evidence of a small puddle in my garage under the right rear shock. The mechanic at his non-MB dealership confirmed the leak source. I have read most of the post on the harmonic balancer failures and have that under control or at least know what to look for. Is the "leak" something I should be concerned about or was the mechanics advice OK. The only other thing that concerns me is that both the headlight and parking light covers appear very "dingy", almost like there is a film over them. Cleaning them doesn't seem to help.

This seems to be a wonderful web site. The information I received (along with pics of the harmonic balancer problem) is priceless. Other than the above I can't really address any concerns about the purchase of this car.
Thanks
Guy

Somewhere, some time ago, someone on some site posted what they did to clear up and shine their lenses. I'll have to do some searching and get back to you.

Doesn't sound too bad, but it looks like you are only about 20 miles so from MB Autowerks which is one of the best independent Mercedes Shops in the country. Why don't you take a little ride and have the car checked out by Donnie who is an expert in the field. Check out their website at mbautowerks.com

You can use a car wax with a cleaner or better a polish. Often the bottle/can will list as safe for plexi-glass.

If they covers are too pitted they can be replaced.

This product was discussed and recommended in an earlier thread. I have used it successfully on my car as well.

Good luck!
