Please help identify this wheel noise

Can someone please help me identify the sound that appears to be coming from my drivers side wheel? I suspect that my wheel bearing is going but I'm not sure. The following link contains an mp3 of the sound:

http://www.ishirts.net/archive/bearing.mp3

I have a 1993 400E with 77k on the odo.

This noise is intermittent and gets faster with speed and then goes away when I hit about 15mph. It is only apparent at slower speeds. It goes away if I turn the wheel sharply. I can actually feel the howling through the steering wheel quite well.

If this is a wheel bearing is it too late to get it repacked if this is an intermittent howling?

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Jerry

Don't have the bandwidth today to try your mp3. Still, all bearing problems I have had, if audible inside, worsened at speed. Audible definitely spells failure, if it IS the bearing.
