Please help identify this wheel noise
Can someone please help me identify the sound that appears to be coming from my drivers side wheel? I suspect that my wheel bearing is going but I'm not sure. The following link contains an mp3 of the sound:
http://www.ishirts.net/archive/bearing.mp3 I have a 1993 400E with 77k on the odo. This noise is intermittent and gets faster with speed and then goes away when I hit about 15mph. It is only apparent at slower speeds. It goes away if I turn the wheel sharply. I can actually feel the howling through the steering wheel quite well. If this is a wheel bearing is it too late to get it repacked if this is an intermittent howling? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Jerry |

Don't have the bandwidth today to try your mp3. Still, all bearing problems I have had, if audible inside, worsened at speed. Audible definitely spells failure, if it IS the bearing.
