				1988 190E 2.3 - Cat Converter blown

My 1988 190E 2.3 failed it's emmissions test recently. It passed after replacing Airflow meter & Cat Converter. After 2 months, the new Cat converter blew (makes a rattling sound). I assume the inside has melted.

What would cause a Cat Converter to blow like this? Where should I start to look?

my 2000 E320 with 15k miles also got the cat converter blown for no reason. The only thing i suspected is I lowered the suspension for 2 inches and i therefore hit the bottom of the car once in a while when i drive thru the speed bump and i don't know whether this is the reason.

Not trying to hijack this thread just wondering...

Where is everyone going for a catalytic converter for older model cars.

I have an emissions test coming up this July and was wondering if I fail it, where should I go. I have them every 2 years in Ontario. I did great 2 years ago but, the car has travelling another 55,000 kms since then. Go OEM, aftermarket, ?......... Please tell all. Thanks, Mike McKinney
