Speedometer swap from MPH to KMH

I need to know if I can swap the speedometer cluster in my '89 300se with a unit from a european/canadian car which is in KPH. I believe the potential replacement unit came from the same year and model mercedes.

If the rear axle ratio is the same will this unit work for me? Can I swap my MPH speedo face to the KPH unit and have it read correctly?
