cooling sytem leak and pressure test
If I do pressure test, can I know whether the water pump or thermostat leaks?

Yup.
When you pressurize the system, coolant will leak out and the pressure will drop. I have to do this with both W124 -- they are slowly loosing coolant and I smell it after stopping from a highway run, but cannot find the leak (probably heater core, alas, or head gaskets) Peter

A mechanic told me to replace water pump (leak) and thermostat cover (seeping) at $675. But their invoice has nothing about pressue test.
Because the coolant level drop is slow in my car, I wondered how they could see the leak. I had another mechanic pressue test my coolant system. The result: no leak.
