Should be accessible from the the top -- my car was not on a lift or jacked up when it was changed.

Obviously, Air Cleaner must come off, and perhaps the oil filter, to gain access.

Hi Haasman:

You need to take off the air cleaner and taking off the oil filter helps a lot because the sensor is right below the oil filter. If memory hasn't failed me yet, you will need a 5mm hex socket to take the sensor off.

Hope this helps.

Aloha,
Eric

Thanks again for the support here.

I will see if I can tackle this at least by the weekend. I am now very curious about the condition of the cable.

Do they typically wear at a particular section?

The car is running once again.

I replaced the fuel pumps, fuel filter, cap and rotor (really needed it), the throttle positioning potentiometer and it still would not start. Arggh!

I pulled the plugs and noticed that they were due but was convinced they were OK. I checked the crankshaft-positioning sensor and noticed the value was off.

In the process of removing it I found the 5mm bolt was loose! Very loose. I had never been in that part of the engine before. I tightened it but still no start.

Since I was seriously considering having towed somewhere I wanted to make sure I eliminated as many possibilities so I went ahead and changed the plugs.

I gave it one last shot- Started immediately! Yes the plugs were worn but not that bad.

It is now running like a champ.

Go figure.

A perfect example of "the innate bastardliness of inanimate objects", (especially those fueled by gasoline.)
Glad it is again running for you. Put the removed fuel pumps on ebay - you'll be surprised at how fast they get a bid.

This one bites a lot of people as the coil connection on the cap attracts carbon over time. At the bottom of the boot you will notice a carbon ring that covers the circumference of the center connection. The spark jumps directly to the black plastic insulator therefore giving electrons what they love, the shortest path to ground! A spray bottle filled with water is a valuable secondary ignition system tester........simply spritz (not drown) a little water over the entire system and listen for the snap! If the cap connection is really bad the engine will die instantly once it is sprayed.

I knew a 420 that suffered with an extremely hard cold start issue, after the initial start it would be fine ther rest of the day.

A dist cap cured that one..........................................................

Thanks for these ....

I was kind of feeling like a dim whit for overlooking the plugs. But .... it is great to have the car running again!

It has been such an ordeal (dead on the side of the road several times) and now I am still kind of waiting for it to stall out .... naw ... too many parts replaced.

Thanks for ALL the great tips and suggestion.

Thank you!

Haasman
