Labor cost for engine mount replacements?

Hello,
I recently noticed that the engine mounts on my "new" '82 240D are badly worn; the word "shredded" comes to mind when I look at the one on the driver's side. The engine seems to shake a lot when starting and shutting down, and there is a lurching sound from that area whenever I go over a bump in the road. I searched around on the forum, and it looks like a 1-2 hour job, and the mounts are only about $40 each on FastLane. I called up the local dealership today, and they want $400 for labor, parts not included. I know dealerships are expensive, but is that as ridiculous as I suspect it is?

I also wonder if bad engine mounts could be what killed my alternator... the previous owner replaced the alt less than a year ago, and now it appears to be dead again. Does that seem like a reasonable theory? Think the NAPA warranty covers being shaken to bits by faulty engine mounts?

Thanks,
Nate

I just had the motor mounts replaced in my 300E. I paid $184 labor at a dealership that charges $100/hour.

Add $80 for parts and you should be spending less than $300 including parts. An Independent might charge you less.
