I just replaced the compressor on my '96 C280. I bought a reconditioned one from local MB dealer. I asked the service department about adding oil. They said no need to, the oil is already installed. Before my mechanic charged the system he added some tracer dye and a little oil to be on the safe side. Don't forget to replace the drier. This is mandatory to protect the evaporator from corrosive moisture. It can be big bucks to have it replaced. Also a good time to replace temp and/or pressure sensors on the drier as it is common for them to get leaky.
Good Luck,

Dan
