What OBD scanner to use ?

Is it a regular OBD scanner or OBD II? I guess so, no? I am going to look into the software link on the front page to use a pda as a scanner.

Whats a decent scanner for home? I want to be ready b4 a problem arises. I am going to search ebay...

thanks
