W202 Water in Passenger Footwell, AC Leak?
Since last summer I have noticed a musty smell in my '97 C230 whenever the interior gets hot from sitting in the sun, but it's always disappeared once the air in the car circulated some, so I never gave it much thought. I recently decided to find the source and traced it to dampness underneath the carpet in the passenger footwell. The foam attached to the back of the carpet was wet (enough to squeeze out 2 or 3 oz. of water) in one place, and slightly damp in others. There was no dampness near the door even though it rained last night, so I figured it couldn't be coming from the outside.
The only thing I can think it could be is condensation from the AC. I tried to run the AC today to get it to leak with no luck. It was a rather cool day today(mid 80s) and I was only able to run it for about 15 min, so I figure there just wasn't enough condensation.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Could a drain for the condensation from the AC be clogged or dislodged? How would I go about checking this?
Thank you for any help anyone can provide.
