Angry w201 auto knocking back end

I've had my 190e2.0L auto for 3 days now and today it started knocking at the back end whenever i accelerated!! It sounds like a cv joint when its f******d ie a kind of ticking whenever you put your foot down but louder, that stops when you lift off.

The thing is, its intermitant. It will be fine one minute then noisey as hell the next(like a real banging noise) It doesnt affect the drive of the car at all!!!!

Whats going on?????

when i bought the car it made no sound at all(i took it for a very long test drive) But it just started knocking today all of a suden

Does anyone have any experiance of this kind of thing???

Cheers, from a very worried Stu.

I had a knocking like you describe on my W124. Turned out it has something to do with my hand brake (foot brake). I haven't had a chance to fix it but I stopped using the foot brake whne parked and the knocking/clicking stopped. Everytime I use the foot brake it comes back. I am going to change the rear rotors so i'll just avoid the foot brake till then and do both.

Get under the car and shake the driveshaft. Does it move around and make banging noises? Change the driveshaft bearing and support in the middle of the car. Happened to my friends 190E 3.2 (rolexbenz190E)

I checked the driveshafts and they seem fine. I've done around 100miles today and all was quiet. No noise at all!!! Il have to get the wheels off tomorrow and check if something has come loose.

Oh, and my electric aerial stoped working today for some reason

I have this problem...

I have the same problem for years now. Knocking from the back while driving. Seems to happen more often in the winter. In the summer its quiet. It has its days though. Some days it knocks, others nothing and everything is fine.

I'm not sure what it is but I was guessing its the shock absorber or something like that. My car is 21 years old and I've never changed the shocks.

If you find out what it is let us know. I wouldn't mind fixing it if I know the solution. Now I'm trying to solve a hard to start problem, I posted about it but no-one answers...bummer!
