A US-spec 83 240D and US-spec 85 300D have the same body for all practical purposes. The biggest differences are that the 300D has:

- a fifth cylinder
- a turbocharger
- AT, power windows, auto climate control and alloy wheels standard
- chrome strips on the tail lights.

A US-spec 85 300SD has the same engine and most options as a US-spec 85 300D but with a bigger body. And power seat controls.
