S500 Bushings Shot, Clunk Noise While Braking in Reverse
I have a 1994 MB S500, I recently got new tires on it but while I was there, the tire guys said they couldnt do the alignment because, as they said, "my bushings were shot." Whenever I go in reverse and brake kind of hard, I hear the clunking noise. I hear it a bit slighter when going over bumps. They said they didnt know enough to handle this sort of problem and the dealer would need to look at it. Does anyone know what these "bushings" are, I've heard of control arm bushings before; how difficult, or costly are they to repair; is it dangerous to be driving with the "bushings" being shot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bushings
There are bushings in the lower control arms which are hydraulic and require a special tool to insert in the arms. $84 ea. plus 3hrs to install since springs have to be collapsed. I had my front end rebuilt and had the sway bar, completely aligned and steering damper replaced at MB, $900 out the door including a loaner car.
