Anyone Know how to Substitute for Impulse Counter?

In the MB Climate Control documentation they refer to an "Impulse Counter." Does anyone know any detail about this?

Does it simply count pulses every so many seconds? Is there anyway I can substitute for this instrument?

I expect that if I had an oscilloscope it would be easy to figure out, but I don't have one and no access to one.

THANKS for the research. This is EXACTLY what I need. I think have everything in my electronics component junk to make an LED box, except the momentary switch and box itself. A trip to the Radio Junk store should get that.

A simple box is made from a plastic 35MM film container.
Hole in the bottom for lead exit and 2 holes in the removable top for sw./led mountings. This allows using the sw. for a terminal board and then just snap the top back on the container when wiring is done. [ If you use a clear film container , the led need not be mounted on the lid , as it can be seen in the clear can] .
Simple , fits in your hand nicely, with the sw. being ergo- operated w/thumb...
Also, if you go to RS , they now have a led with bulit-in resistor for 12 volt operation..
Part # 276-209.
Saves from going with the extra dropping resistor and extra wiring..

Hi

Anyone that knows how all this works on a 1998 CLK 320 cab. It does not have an OBDII connector since it is a european sold car. I have started a thread (http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=98704) where I ask if there are anyone that knows how to do diagnostics (and reset) using the 38 pin connector (X11/4) and if anyone knows if there are any PC based scanner/tools that I can use, either direct or with some modification on the hardware.

Sorry I can't help. I thought that Steve Brotherton had answered this in your thread.

Arthur,

I already made one and did the test. I used a plastic project box and got fancy with a panel fuseholder and a resistor in series with the LED.

I only got one blink, so there were no codes present. I found three bad vac pods bad under the dash. I wanted to see if there were any other problems, like maybe a bad temp sensor, I wanted to know so that I could replace them while the instrument panel was off.

You must have a power probe. Just stick the point in the appropriate socket, hit the negative switch, and count the pulses. I don't have my DTC book here right now so I don't know which socket. Steve Brotherton is working on it. I just thought it could be a good idea to post my problem/question here as well, since I was notified to look at this and some other thread, which could be of use to me.

Thanks, I will check the Baum tools.

Another question. I now have learded that there should be a Diagnostic Manual that describes "everything" related to the connector and diagnostics. Where can I find such manual ? Is there a stand-alone manual for this or is it part of some of the other "to expensive" workshop manuals, like WIS and EPC (that I cannot afford to buy) ?
