Help with electrical connection

I found this unplugged near the drivers side firewall. Can anybody help identify what this connector might be for? Someone suggested the break pad wear indicator. Anyone have other thoughts?

Car is an '87 SDL.

It looks like the connector for the brake pad wear sensor harness.

That was it. What is normal operation when the pads show wear? Should this light only come on when the pedal is pressed? Or should it flicker? Mine is flickering which is might be why it was disconnected.

Thanks so much. Appears that it is on its way. Flickering all the time and on steady when depressed.
