Unhappy C280 Console Removal

Anybody know how to remove the center console on a 1996 C280? It's a long story, involving my 3 year old and a small salamander that disappeared recently. Thanks.

1. Open the wooden door behind the shifter

2. Lift the wood shifter surround upward, starting from the rear.

3. Unplug the switches, remove two screws behind the shifter housing

4. Remove two forward facing screws in the tray in front of the shifter, and remove the tray

5. Remove two sideways facing screws which should be visible now that the tray is removed

6. There are two more screws at the bottom of the main console storage bin. Now, the main console can be removed. Pull it up and rearward.

Smile

Thanks,

I was hung up on removing the shifter surround. It was pretty stubborn, so I didn't know if I was missing something. After that, everything was a breeze, job complete, salamander remains out of the car and properly disposed of.
