Lately my 240D has been running better than ever, and frankly I'm scared :). The acceleration is GREAT! Even up-hill :D
Now I have been noticing a sputtering sound like a hole in the exhaust coming from the passenger floorboard. Almost like a hole in the floorboard is over a hole in the exhaust. The sound increases in volume when going uphill and between 20-50MPH. Beyond 50 mph or on level ground, the sound is not as audible. I recently had a new exhaust put on the car, and it is still solid. There are no holes in the floorboard :) Does anyone have an idea on the origin of this sound? Could it be a leaking manifold? could it be your resonator?

check the exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold joint and the pipe and connections under the car. A small leak can sound loud sometimes. Find the leak if it really is one. Could be lots of other things making noise, but you seem sure it is exhaust related.

Bobbyv,
Resonator? Would you be referring to the center muffler or something else? Kebowers, I am going to check the manifold connections tonight. I am guessing it is the manifold gasket or the connection between manifold and exhaust pipe. I am not sure if it is exhaust... just what it sounds like. Isn't there a 'donut' type insert between the manifold and exhaust pipe connection? Could this cause the problem if the 'donut' is leaking under pressure? Could I get one locally on the weekend or is this a special order part?
