Ambient temp senson

Has anybody replaced the ambient temp sensor on a 140 series MB? I have a 92 300sd. The outside temp indicator on the instrument panel jumps all over the place. DOes this effect the climate control operation? How hard is it to replace the sensor?
Thanks in advance.
Tim
