560 vs 420 and 300SE/L/C console wood piece
Can anyone tell me why the 560 has a much bigger shifter area than that of a 420/300? I have infront of me 2 console pieces, one from a 1986-1991 560SE/L/C.... the other of a 420/300. The only differences is that one is burlwood, and other is zebrano. I thought that was all the difference, but now I see that the area where the shifter goes is about 3/4" bigger all around.

I just thought I would look and see whats available, too big a job. Turns out the same sheet of options appears on frames for both 420 and 560 it looks like this:

Snib,
I would have to guess that the panel with the larger opening is actually missing the rubber/plastic trim ring. The shift gate should be the same size for all 126's regardless of year, of course I state that without double checking my parts catelogue. Maybe I'll do that if I get bored enough tonight.

Mike you are correct about the rubber being missing.. but even with it on, its still considerably larger.

Hello everyone, 1st post here.
My question is: can you get that rubber trim piece that goes around the inside of the shifter opening? I've been told that it is part of the wood console trim. Thanks ! Jeff |

From the dealer-
"The part number isn't in the system. if this number is on a part, then it might just be a casting number and not the actual spare part number." |

I believe it's a model year thing, not a model thing.
After 1987, there was a different shape (larger) to the shifter opening for the 126. The rubber is not available separately, according to three different dealers' parts depts, when I checked ~3yrs. ago. Try this? http://eris-car.de/cgi-bin/shop2/iboshop.cgi?show2400,2812806110

I went threw this at the dealer last week, no you can't get the rubber trim piece it is part of the wood. Wood cost $287 for my car.
