I checked to see how long it takes for the fan to stop after the car is turned off Max 3 turns. If the fan doesnt move more than a few inches before it gets resistance, then its good. If the fan just spins after the engine is turned off, then the fan clutch is broken.
Or if the symptoms are right, your engine will just warm up and never really level out and boil over within minutes then its broken. To test your waterpump, let the engine warm up, run the aux fan for a while and then start the engine, rev up to 2500 to 3000 and watch if the temp guage goes down significantly. Good luck, I just had to fix mine so ask specific questions and Ill be able to answer them. Peter |

Here's an easy one, borrowed from a previous post...
old fashioned Mr. Cheapie fan clutch test: >wear safety equipment: goggles & gloves >on a fully warm motor/ cooling system >roll up daily newspaper (ready to swat a dog), approx 5-6 sheets is sufficient (not too tightly rolled) >with motor warm and running, touch the tip (approx 2 of the newspaper to the middle 1/2 portion of the moving fan blade (do not jamb the entire newspaper in) >if the fan chews up the tip of the newspaper, the fan clutch would appear to be engaging appropriately (locked when warm) >if the fan stops, it would appear the the fan clutch is not thermo locked appropriately |
