Old parts
Hi folks, I'm trying to find (without luck) a blower motor for a 1965 220SE. If anybody has a parts car or knows of a source for vintage parts please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Did you try George Murphy at 865.482.9175? He has all sorts of stuff including stuff to rebuild blowers.
Also Bob Neuberg at 410.789.7896

Or maybe any appliance repair shop / handyman can wrap a new heat blower motor for the Haeckflosse SE if you dont want to pay $300 for the genuine item. Regular repair man can even go beyond original specs for a high performance fan, who knows?
Just dont let em remove the metal clips on the fan-blade.... These serve as ballance weights same as lead weights on wheel rims. Or better yet, get the fan blades ballanced again after the rebuild is complete. |

Thanks for the replies. I should've mentioned that one of the fan blades is broken, so I'll need the entire unit. Anybody else???

You might NOT need the entire fan, just move all the clips to the side missing the blade and test balance!

fin parts car
I have a '60 220Sb - very early version - parts car which I recently got from Florida. It is a complete car with a partially rebuilt motor. I now can't use the car and need to make room for another one coming. Decent vinyl seats and door panels - bench front seat - and mostly rust free body. I would consider selling parts from it but would prefer to sell the whole car. I would sell the heater core assembly if you want it, although I would probably sell the whole car pretty cheap.

Rust free body, decent interior, and partially rebuilt motor? Why is it being parted out?
Thanks David

That parts car sounds like a euro delivery. If it is really, really early, check the chrome trim to see if it's the usual light weight stuff or if it's heavy brass. The bench seat is unique. I have one from a 250S that I use in my garage as a spot to sit and read (when it's not piled high with junk). -CTH

David,
This one sounds better than the others you've looked at. Now if you could just get it to Indiana... Happy Motoring, Mark

We've PMed back and forth slightly, I think this one is a passer. I finally got a response from Saturnine to one of my emails, so hopefully he isn't asking an arm and a leg. I can get a car from San Francisco to my house for about $700. I don't want to spend over $2300 or so total. I also need to try and sell my SD, if I buy something else. But I can afford to pay 2300, then sell me SD. I just hope he doesn't want a bunch of money since he bought it cheap and wants to get rid of it. I realy like Saturnine's becasue it's black, and the body is in decent shape. If I could, I wouldn't mind driving it back, but me and another driver would cost about the same flying out (gas, food, etc.) as just having it shipped.
All I realy care about is the body. I want a nice body that shouldn't need paint too soon and an interior where I can sit without a spring in my rear end. I'll redo all the wood and reaplce the window/door seals right off-hand. So long as the car's driveable of course. Thanks David

Do you think I'm being too picky?
Thanks David

RE my car being a Euro delivery. It was ordered from the factory by an officer in the Air Force (I think) in Germany. It has 77Kmiles. The bench front seat was probably the cheapest seat option but it does have the arm rest in the back. The car is a radio delete, no front carpets, etc. Probably the least expensive version of the car in '60. It has a lot of early version stuff, like chrome heater levers, but the exterior chrome and stainless are the same as all the other 30 or so fins I've had. It is definitely a parts car or total resto.
Good body though. |

But what constitutes a parts car?
Most people say when the body is played and has rusted to smitherines. Others base their opinon purely on mechanicals like beat engine, tranny or drivetrain & suspension work. Among Heckflossen 111's there are so few mechanicals that can go wrong that most people with jump all over a car with decent cosmetics - knowing that cyl head work or "waking up" an old and sleepy or partially disassembled engine is the least of their worries. Dobrogan, what d'you mean by "partially rebuilt engine"? One man's junk is another man's treasure. Hell, why dont you give the car to the kid for free - knowing it's going to a very good home among a family of cars of its own kind. It's a weird thing when collectors become possessive. Maybe y'all folks are forgeting the rewards of passing one generation's hobbyist interests onto the next. And where on earth will you find somebody 'worthy' to continue the tradition? If not here on the Vintage Forum, then probably nowhere else on earth. |

Unfortunately I can't afford to give it away, but that's a nice thought. I suggest you buy it from me and ship it to David. It should only be about $700 for shipping and not much for the car. As I told David in an e-mail a few days ago, this car is not a good fit for him. It needs everything. The body is solid and the chassis is fairly low mileage, but to put it in nice condition would mean a complete restoration, and in my opinion this car is not worth it. He would have a lot more money into it than it would be worth in the end. The motor was partially rebuilt by the guy I bought it from - the head has been done, it has new rings, he started to re-assemble the engine and then he started having kids and lost time and interest in the car. I don't have the time, money, or inclination to complete the motor work. About the possessive thing, I don't know about you but I work very hard for the little that I have and am not at the level of being able to be philanthropic with cars. And as to passing it on, my son and daughter are getting plenty of garage experience with these cars - probably more than they want sometimes - and the hobby is safe.
