76 240D central locking problem

My central locking's gone wrong. Whenever I start the engine there's a high pitched hissing noise somewhere behind the dashboard (I'm not a mechanic, so don't laugh!)

If I push down the knob on my drivers door the hissing stops and sometimes the central locking works when I stop - other times it doesn't. I realise there must be a leak somewhere - anyone know what to do?

Thanks

Andy

The same problem on a 114 is typically a cracked rubber bellows that drives one of the door locks. Maybe the driver's door lock bellows is suspect, and you only think the hissing is coming from dashboard. Or is one door lock slower than the rest? This happened to me on a '73 280/8 and it was an easy fix.
