Gabriel vs Bilstein Shocks
i can purchase a set of 4 new old stock of gabriel gas shocks for $44 usd or a set of 4 new bilstein shocks for $260 usd. i am restoring my 250c and will be using this car as a family vehicle. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks. |

I would not put anything on it except the Bilsteins if I were you. Nothing compares to a set of Bilsteins.

If you can get Bilstein's for $260.00, what in the heck are you waiting for? That is one killer price dude.

Gabriel shocks and Monroe shocks are just inferior. A local parts house who specializes in foreign parts outright told me he'd refuse to sell me Gabriel or Monroes for my '68 because they are so crappy... and when a parts house goes that far out on a limb to say something like that, I take their word for it....
The only other good shock for the Merrcedes is Sachs. They are the exact same shock as Bilstein, but under a different name and at a significantly cheaper price. Wherever you are getting the price for the Bilsteins, see if they carry Sachs. I just looked them up, and they run about $10 to $15 each cheaper than Bilstein. Maybe that'll help you....

i put BOGE's on my 250s, they were pretty nice too. prolly on the stiff side
