Please help. I just obtained an 78 280E that was in storage for 5 years. The problem is that the fuel went bad. So far I changed the fuel filter and blew out the lines, but there is no fuel getting to the engine. I also checked the current to the pump, with a test light, and there is current. Should I feel or hear the pump mechanism. My theory is that there is jelled fuel in the pump. Is there any way to clean outthe fuel pump w/o replacing it. Any suggestions. How can I flush the fuel injection pump. Any theories as to the problem? Any ideas on the value of the car before beginning any large investments?? Thanks

Your diagnosis is probably correct based on my experience with my 250C and a 230SL that I worked on. You might try to force some carb cleaner through the fuel pump and replace it it that doesn't work. With pressure from the fuel pump, I would then see what the injection pump does.
You will probably need a good used unit or send it out to be rebuilt based on what I have read and experienced with the 230SL. Good luck.
