Fuel Injection Pump differences R18 and R20

Hi

I discover that my 250SL (late) with engine nº003505 has a Bosch injection pump PES 6KL 70A120 R20 and not the PES 6KL 70A120 R18Z (or R18Y).

1- Should I remove the R20 and change it to a R18Z ?
2- What are the diferences?
3- Is it possible to adjust (convert) one R20 to work as R18Z ?

The R20 was the pump for the 280SE a different engine.

Many thanks
Sérgio

Check the engine number. If it's an M130, it's correct. If it's an M129, it's incorrect.

Dear Warren

You are right, 003505 is the Chassis number. The engine number is 129982-10-001821.
Can I change an R18Y for an R20 ?

My technical data book for 1966 only had engine types 129.980 and 981. It does not list a 982. and does not have the 250SL. The sedan injection pump had the 18 suffix.

I suggest you go to Welcome - Mercedes Benz 230SL, 250SL, 280SL Pagoda Group and check the technical section or ask your question in the drivetrain subforum. I don't have that information and don't want to give you bad information.

This page:

Pagoda SL Group Technical Manual :: Fuel / Injection

shows the 280SL pumps as R20 and higher.

Good luck.
