w108 wood restoration Los Angeles

Does anyone have a place that they can recommend to have the wood accents restored.

I'd like to get a complete restoration of the wood in my w108. Does anyone know average cost for the entire job?

I've been gathering resources for future projects, wood restoration being one of them, and came across this place. I don't know anything about them but the photos seem to show good work. And, they're near Los Angeles!

I have used Heritage Woodworks several times. Their standards and work are excellent.

Heritage Woodworks

I am not sure if Heritage Wood works is still open. The owner Drew Tibcken passed away at the beginning of the year.

He refinished the dash wood on my w109 a few years ago. His work was top notch and second to none. The automotive wood restoration world lost a truly skilled craftsman in his passing.

That is true. Excellent work from him.

Sadly, he also left with a lot of the knowledge of which piece belongs to whom. It is a bit of a mystery there the last time I called, they are having trouble sorting stuff out.

Call Madera, they also do very good work.

An early 108 local to me just had 21 pieces of wood redone from walnut to burl (some were quite badly swollen and delaminated or cracked) and I believe the bill was north of $4K, not including shipping. Much depends on condition, desired finish or if a change in wood veneer is what is wanted.

Yes, Madera is where i'm leaning toward. I don't mind driving out there. I plan on having them re-veneered too. They have a veneer called Macassar ebony. OMG. amazing. Thick lines of black and blonde.

Question for all of you. When i bought my 72 280se, the previous owner gave me spare wood pieces. one of the sets was for the wood trim that surronds the front windshield.. (along the top of the windwhield and wrapping around the A pillars) similar to the windshield wood surround that they put on the pullman and the w111

I think they used to put that wood trim on the 1967/68 250s/se. -correct me if i'm wrong.

so my question is, even though its not period correct for my year 280se 4.5, should i install it? i think it would look really nice.

Install it; MB went away from from the wood with the introduction of US "safety regs". The small column shift knob gave way to the large rubber pestle, etc., and the windshield A-pillars and header became foam-backed vinyl.

I will post pics of the recently done local to me 67 108 250SE's Madera wood when the interior is all back in.
