Possible 1973 280se 4.5 part out. Any interest?

Official part out! I'm stoked. The car is beautiful, but it has so much rust I do not want to deal with, on top of not wanting to complete the project I started. There is rust in the front wheel wells. The rocker panels are rusted out pretty bad holes rusted through in floor pans, nice coat of rust on most the undercarriage. Top half of the body is in pretty good shape though. I am perfectly willing to sell the car whole. Ask quick before i start selling parts! I have EVERYTHING currently, I was in the process of replacing the heads (still on the car) but have everything above the manifolds off. You will need to have the heads refurbished or get used ones.

Here is a link to my website... just a playground for using my software platform called Ocoos :-). Pictures and details...

Below is a list of parts with prices, if you want something that is not yet on the list please ask about it. I am listing parts that are already off of the vehicle or quick to remove. Other parts can be removed and shipped just ask :-) I've checked prices on ebay and I am making sure everything on here comes out cheaper than ebays best deals. Located in Ocala, Florida which is about 1.5 hours north of Orlando and slightly less than 2 hours north of Tampa. Large items are pickup only (hood, windshields etc.)

-Restored Air Cleaner - sand blasted and powder coated black. New factory (felt like material) seal for the lid and new rubber seal on the bottom where it attaches to the t-body. K&N air filter and working air temp sensor. Restored air cleaner including the air filer were used for maybe 100 miles. $280 for everything, $250 without filter and sensor. See picture above. + SHIPPING COSTS

-Restored + improved fuel system - Cleaned and painted metal fuel rail, 8 new Bosch fuel injectors (retail at $232 new each), Gates high quality silicone fuel lines (all wrapped in black mesh heat shield, new Bosch Fuel Pressure Regulator, new Bosch fuel damper, old/used cleaned and functional cold start injector. Would cost $2100 + time to redo this (not including value of fuel rail and cold start injector). Only used for approximately 100 miles not even a spec of grime on anything. I prefer not to break this up since it is all together so nicely but I will if that's what is takes. Asking $1200 shipped.

-Valve Covers - Cleaned and powder coated silver with clear. When removing the intake manifold there were a few scruffs made on the paint on the side facing the manifold. you cant see the scuffs if everything is on the engine and really they could be cleaned up (see pictured). Includes the new valve cover gaskets. Asking $180 for the pair shipped.

-Partially refurbished power steering pump, works great. It has been flushed and cleaned in and out. new filter, new lid seal and new return hose, repainted lid. Used for approximately 100 miles. $60 shipped.
hood/radiator grill with badge and star. Excellent condition $180 shipped

-Hood (already removed) $130 PICKUP ONLY.

-Front and rear lower bumpers. Absolutely no damage. EXCELLENT shape. $150 each. will ship if you are willing to pay shipping cost ( could be $60- $80 each)

-Complete trunk lid, no rust, includes badges and hazard thingy. $120 (will ship if you are willing to pay costs. might be $80-$100 to ship, otherwise pickup)

-Complete Intake Manifold. Upper and lower, includes new unused gaskets (head to manifold gasket) and new seals (between upper and lower) $100 shipped.

-Auxiliary air valve. Cleaned, tested. $100 shipped.

-Cooling Fan with clutch $80 shipped

-Throttle body with positioning sensor (everything is fully functional) $80 shipped

So food for thought:
My 108 was a rusted out mess I wanted to keep for parts for a future 108, or make into a major overhaul project car. I sold it when I had my first kid. It was parked at my mom's house for a few years and I didn't (and still do not) have the time.

That being said, if I waited to sell it, I could probably have gotten another $1000 today just based on how much 108/109s have gone up in value.

I wish I still had it, not for the money, but for the parts and the project itself. If you have the room to keep it at no cost, you may want to rethink dumping it

My first thought was parting mine too, but honestly, I have no time to part it being a father now. Maybe if the kids were in school or even daycare, it'd be different!

I'd be interested in a few things if you decide to part it out.

I would be interested in parts as well. What is the interior color?

I'd be interested in the wood trim under the windshield if not broken. I can refinish it if needed.

Tomguy: This car is very pretty from normal views but it has quite a bit of rust underneath. Not something I want to mess around with. The heads are in bad shape because i had a few bolts from the intake manifold break when removing the intake manifold. and the surface got scratched when trying to pry the manifold off. It was total worst case scenario removing that manifold. So i would need to either drop some coin on getting the heads fixed or find replacements. that is also a deterrent for finishing the project. it feels like it would be a lot less work to just strip off the remaining valuable parts, I have plenty of room to store the parts (not to park cars)

On top of that my wife and I both bought new cars this year but they are both parked outside because the garage has the two classics. I also have a w116 I am selling (a very beautiful + running one). I may want another w108 but one without the rust concerns. I will probably part it out and keep the parts I wanted to keep, sell others. At the same time I have gotten into the r107 models so if i decide to go that route. either way I can only have one spot in the garage because the wife is staking claim on hers :-)

Napster, The interior color is dark blue, most of it is in good shape.

Vandor, without looking i think it is good shape just faded from sun.

Jemla, I did a project restoring "everything on top of the motor" All new fuel lines, brand new bosch injectors, new frp, new damper. I used high quality silicone lines and black mesh heat covers. painted the metal parts of fuel lines. Very pretty / clean looking. Powder coated the valve covers silver. Sand blasted and Powder coated the air cleaner black. Someone could buy all of this as a package and really transform the look of the car under the hood.

A lot of the other parts were vacuum lines, oil hoses. Its been a while i would need to check after work.

I might be interested in some of those djet parts, just for spares. If you go ahead, PM me with prices.

I, too, am interested in the wood trim under the windshield. Probably should have mentioned it in my earlier post. Any pictures. I am also interetsed in the outside mirror if it is in good shape.

oil pan

Hello Gingerkid,

Do you happen to have an older oil pan with the larger diameter drain hole in your spare parts?

Thanks,

I will take some pictures after work today. Seems like there is enough interest that I would be game to part this out. Will want to talk it over with the wife since she loves these cars almost as much as me :-)
