I appreciated anyone who helped me out. I have another question, is all the work I plan on doing worth it? From what I understand these cars are bullet proof, but is that relative? In other words, will I have to continually fix the car, or will I rebuild it and not have any problems?
Also, how much is the car worth to begin with? It has 152k on a rebuild drive train, great paint [after I hand buff it], and a near perfect interior. One spot of rust above the passenger head light [euro lights, BTW]. Thanks again Joe My 220 My Ugly Bimmer |

How can you lose?
Even if you are just after basic transportation, what could be better than one of the "bulletproof" Benzes?
Costs to keep up, parts, etc., will be FAR LESS than that for the most prosaic late model Brand X. You will likely not lose money on the deal. Every time I hear someone like you I think of a dentist who lived in Northwest Washington in the '50s and '60s. He systematically mined the garages of Chevy Chase and the big apartment buildings on Connecticut Avenue for slightly out of style but still mechanically impeccable older cars, many carefully laid up since WWII. He got classic Packards, Marmons, and other beasts for peanuts, and used them as daily drivers. At one point he had a Stutz DV-32 boattail speedster to commute in. Your MB is one of the last purely mechanical vehicles to be produced. It is finely engineered and overbuilt. It is one of the last cars where "taking care of it" will make a difference. Hang on to it! |
