Slowly losing electrical functions on W115 dash?
 

Hello Peach Parts forum! In these past few weeks of driving my 240D (W115) again, I have been slowly starting to lose electrical power on the dashboard.

A few weeks back it began with the Becker radio, next I lost power to the cigarette lighter and interior lights, and two days back my turn signals and hazards stopped working.

First thing I did was check the fuses, they were all corroded so swapped in fresh ceramics. This unfortunately did not solve the problem but were in need of a good swap anyways, my next suspect is the hazard relay that may be causing the turn signals to act up.

In the past the hazard button would occasionally get stuck requiring you to poke it hard with your thumbs, that I just brought it in for an inspection and they had to test it all. Perhaps they pressed something too hard knocking a wire loose? However, that would not expain the rest of the problems.

I can also report my wipers, instrument lights, and air are still working. I can 90% sure rule out the fuses, anything else it could be?

You will want to check the fuse panel to see if you are losing a power feed to the box or something past that.

Cycling the hazard SW (short of smashing the dash with a hammer) would not cause something to come loose.

Id check the ground straps , battery ground and ground to the dash pod ( or add one)

x2 on checking grounds. Start with main body/chassis grounds and move backwards towards the trouble area. Not sure about the W115, but the W123, 126, and R107 all have common "ground points" that give trouble fairly frequently. The functions you describe that have failed are not likely to be on the same fuse feed, but will very likely share a common grounding point - probably behind the instrument cluster or behind the radio

That makes sense, I did accidentally tug out this cable installing my radio. Never thought to put it back, not sure if it is a ground.
