Windshield: green glass versus clear?

Hey All,

My '81 300TD and '79 240D both need a new windshield. The only ones that are available apparently have "green" glass. This is in addition to the tinted band along the top, which is optional.

I'm probably fine with this green glass on my 240D, but the wagon is white over blue interior, and I'm not sure.

Heck, I'm not sure what 'green glass' even looks like. Does anyone have a w123 with this installed they could share photos of?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

I have it in my 39 studebaker street rod. You'd have to look very carefully to notice it IMHO. I'd say if you need it and there is no clear available, go for it.

It could be that your stock windshields are also the green tinted type, and you're just used to it (unless they were replaced with aftermarket type at some point). I never really thought about the windows on both my '87 560 SEC and '07 CLS 550 until I saw on the online parts catalog that either blue or green was a choice.

I got a ticket in CA for having windows tinted on a Car. I read the Law and on the front windshield you can only have the top 3 inches or so tinted.

Best to do an internet search on the laws and see for yourself.

I have not seen any W123s locally that have what I would call a green windshield.

All US-spec. w123s (I think all w123s with A/C, except AUS-spec. ) had heat insulating green-tinted windshield.
